He did not appear until later on in the season of 2003 due to a niggling injury. He ran very well on his first outing at Newcastle finishing third in a mile Maiden. He duly won at Pontefract next time out but then disappointed at Ayr and Lingfield towards the end of the year. We took him back to Lingfield just before Christmas for a ten-furlongs Handicap, where he showed the right attitude to get up on the line.
He was slightly disappointing on his first run this year, in an eleven furlong Handicap at Southwell. He did not appear to handle the surface and finished towards the rear of the field. We then took him back to Lingfield for a twelve furlong Handicap. Unfortunately he came up against the in form horse of Sir Mark Prescott's, Fall In Line, who had won four times in eight days. Hip Hop Harry ran well and he battled on in the final furlong to finish second. He was slightly disappointing on his next two starts, where he was unplaced. We gave him a break after this, before taking him to Pontefract for a twelve furlong Handicap. He was pushed along two furlongs out, before weakening to finish towards the rear of the field. He did not appear to stay the twelve furlongs on this track due to the rain softened ground.
He is by First Trump, who won the Middle Park Stakes and the Richmond Stakes. His dam won four races in Italy at three years. He is a half brother to 3 winners including Simply Katie, who won her only two starts at three years.
Hip Hop Harry is from the family of:
Sapience (Niniski) - winner of the 1992 Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes and Princess of Wale's Stakes, and second in the Group 1 St Leger Stakes.
